The CECIP General Assembly took place from 11 to 13 June at the VDMA headquarters in Frankfurt, marking a historic milestone—75 years of CECIP. This anniversary was a proud celebration of the long-standing spirit of collaboration and progress within the CECIP community.
For the first time, the General Assembly featured three evening events, beginning with a warm-up party and culminating in a memorable Gala Dinner at Frankfurt’s iconic Main Tower. The event concluded with a professional video production and a thought-provoking panel discussion on the harmonization of legal metrology within the EU single market.
On 12 June, the LMG Seminar offered valuable insights into recent developments and innovations in legal metrology. Paul Dixon presented updates on OIML revision projects, while Martin Nischwitz discussed the latest progress in the WELMEC WG7 recast. Professor Takatsuji demonstrated Japan’s approach to verifying automatic weighing instruments, and Mark Whittle from CSES shared the current status of the MID/NAWID revision evaluation project.
The open session on 13 June featured a series of impactful presentations. Holger Kunze, Director of VDMA’s European Office, provided an overview of the European Commission’s simplification efforts, including upcoming omnibus packages aimed at reducing bureaucratic burdens for businesses. Oliver Wack from VDMA delivered an insightful speech on how the mechanical engineering sector can respond to external pressures from the US and China. Dr. Matthias Bauer, Director at the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE), emphasized the urgent need for deeper harmonization and more ambitious proposals to drive innovation and scale within the EU single market. Zsuzsanna Dakai, Policy Coordinator at the European Commission, outlined the current status of the MID/NAWID evaluation and the structure of the newly released Single Market Strategy. Finally, Daniel Stastny, representing WELMEC, presented an update on ongoing processes within the organization.
The three-day meeting was a memorable and successful highlight in celebrating 75 years of the European Weighing Industry Association. It was a moment for the community to come together—to reflect on our shared history, exchange knowledge, spark innovation, and look confidently towards our shared future.
